Schnippers Quality Kitchen in midtown Manhattan is not good value for money, at least, not for the likes of me who swear by the virtues of cheap.
No one in a sane world would pay $4 for six onion rings or $6 for a milk-shake.
Hell, no.
That’s what the wise ones call daylight robbery.
Schnipper’s Midtown Location
Schnipper’s has two locations in Manhattan – W.41st and 8th Ave in Midtown Manhattan and E.23rd St and Madison Ave.
I stopped by Schnipper’s Midtown location the other day.
Schnipper’s sits on 8th Ave, bang opposite the Port Authority bus terminal and subway station.
This casual restaurant offers burgers, fries, shakes, soups, sandwiches and sloppy joes.
Over the last couple of years, the place has built up some buzz thanks to the online crowd yelping about it.
The restaurant also has the advantage of being close to Times Square and the theatre district.
I had passed by Schnipper’s several times during my desultory wanderings in Midtown West but never felt the urge to step in.
Until I did the other day to see what all the hype was about.
You order at the counter, pay up and find yourself a table.
I saw people drinking beer but I was not in the mood for Bacchus.
I ordered a Black & White Shake, a Hamburger and, in a moment of madness, Onion Rings.
It took about 15-minute for my food to be ready and delivered.
There’s plenty of seating, both inside and outside.
And if you’re the sort that cares about ambiance, it’s glass walls and white and stainless steel.
Drool baby, drool over my Schnipper’s Burgers and Shake pictures:
Sredni’s Verdict on Schnipper’s
Here’s my verdict on Schnipper’s 8th Ave:
Black & White Shake – Simply divine. Don’t tell nobody but I almost came after a few sips – $5.99 – Ridiculously Expensive
Hamburger (Medium Well cooked seems to be the default) – Good. The patty was juicy and thick, the bun was decent – $5.50 – So-So on Price to Value
Onion Rings – Good – $3.99 – A total ripoff on Price to Value.
** Service – Bad. When I went to get a water refill at the self-serve counter the girl cleaning the area was visibly annoyed at being disturbed.
Hell, someone should tell the proletariat that customers pay their wages. Service was brusque at cash counter. Also, if the order-taker at the cash counter can’t smile at a customer, he/she ought not to be in the service business.
** Restroom – Dirty.
