Ming Du Restaurant & Bakery
273 W.38th St
New York, NY 10018
Great, dirt cheap treats in New York City come when you least expect it.
Here I was in Midtown Manhattan hungry as hell.
But it was too early for a full lunch.
So I popped into Ming Du on W.38th St (off 8th Ave) to see if I could grab a quick bite.
Voila, I struck gold there.
Read on, sweetie pie.
My Ming Du Picks
Ming Du Restaurant & Bakery is more like a fast food joint.
You order at the food counter near the entrance, pay up and pick up your food.
Find a table at the back and enjoy your food.
I ordered three buns:
Coconut Bun with Sesame Seeds toppings – 80 cents
Red Beans Bun – 60 cents
Pineapple Bun – 60 cents
Coconut Bun (top) Red Beans Bun (left) Pineapple Bun (right)
Coconut bun was a big rectangular shaped bun with sesame seeds toppings.
It was soft, slightly sweetish and included tasty coconut stuffing inside.
I could eat them all day and not get tired or bored!
Red Beans bun was of medium size, round shaped and included, no surprise here, red beans stuffing inside.
Pineapple bun was medium size, round shaped and had a mild Pineapple flavor.
I’d have preferred a stronger pineapple flavor but I’m not complaining.
I’ll take my blessings where I find them.
As I write this piece, I’m stealing glances at the Ming Du takeout menu and, boy, am I glad to inform you that there’s nothing here above $5.50.
Wooh! My kind of Dirt Cheap NYC restaurant.
Dirt Cheap NYC for the 99% strongly recommends Ming Du Restaurant & Bakery.
Next time, I’m gonna head to Ming Du for lunch and pick the Fast Food Special – Any 3 dishes with Fried or White Rice and Soup for $5. 😉
