New York Public Library
Foremost among the many NYC libraries is, of course, the main branch of the New York Public Library on 5th Avenue (at 42nd St).
This is a cavernous building containing over 50 million items (print and electronic) including rare books and microfilms you wouldn’t find anywhere else in New York City.

Bibliophiles shouldn’t miss the New York Public Library.
Even if you’re the kind that develops nausea at the mere sight of a book, you can still go to the New York Public Library on 5th Avenue and enjoy the sandwiches there.

Recently, the sandwich chain Wichcraft opened a store right inside the library. No kidding!
The New York Public Library system has branches throughout the island.
They stretch from North End Ave in Battery Park City in downtown Manhattan all the way to W.179th St on the Upper West side.
