Finally, I made time for the long delayed trip to Absolute Bagels on the Upper West side of Manhattan.
Truth be said that if there’s a bagel Heaven on Earth, it must be Absolute Bagel on Broadway between 107th St and 108th St.
During my visit, the line was out the door.
But the wait wasn’t long since the staff inside are fast. Most orders are for takeout.
The place is cramped (hey, this is Manhattan) and there are only a few chairs and tables.
Double Bagels
I ordered two bagels, an onion bagel with butter ($1.25) and a plain one with cream cheese ($2.25).
No, I did not forget my small cup of coffee ($1). Hey, I live on caffeine.
Bagel with Butter – $1.25
Both my bagels were well toasted (as I’d requested) and tasty.
They were chewy and provided the comfort of a cheap and delicious NYC treat.
Coffee was hot and fresh.
Bagel with Cream Cheese – $2.25
Look at the crowd outside Absolute Bagels (see picture below), a testament to the place’s popularity with both locals and tourists.
Don’t curse me if you see a long line.
While the bagels were tasty and cheap, the tables and the floor were littered with sesame seeds and napkins.
